Soy Candle Benefits

Along with Candle Safety and Tips & Tricks

Over the years we have heard and read some “interesting” articles about candles.
Some information you find has truth to it and some, not so much. We put together
a few Tips and Ticks concerning basic facts regarding soy candles and candle safety.

NO BLACK JARS, WALLS OR CEILINGS: Since Soy wax is a natural product (made from soybeans) soy candles burn cooler than paraffin candles and they produce little to no soot which means your jars, walls and ceiling will not turn black. Soy candles are also better for people who have allergies or asthma.

BURNS CLEANER: Soy candles are non-toxic and will burn cleaner and last longer than traditional petroleum paraffin candles.

BURNS COOLER & LAST LONGER: Soy wax candles burn cooler than paraffin candles and at a lower temperature which will allow soy candles to retain their scent for the life of the candle and last much longer.

BIODEGRADABLE: Since soy wax is made from soybeans it is biodegradable and water-soluble which means soy candle wax is also easier to remove from materials such as carpet than paraffin wax.

HEALTHIER: Candles made with 100% soy wax do not release the petroleum-based pollutants that paraffin candles do which means cleaner air for you, your family and your pets to breath.

HELPING LOCAL FARMERS: Soy wax comes from farmers right here in the United States which helps the U.S. economy.

Most of the candles you find today in your local department stores are made of paraffin, a petroleum based product. You most likely purchased these candles because they smelled nice and the color was perfect, then you lit it… within minutes you can see the black residue (soot) rising from the lit wick staining the jar or container. Every time you relight that paraffin candle you not only further blacken the jar but also may blacken your walls, ceilings, vents or AC units. Now imagine that same soot being inhaled into your lungs. Who needs that?

As candle lovers we ventured into the candle industry to find an alternative to paraffin candles. Our goal and purpose was to offer a candle that lasted longer, smelled great from start to finish and was a healthier alternative to paraffin. After months of research and experimenting Candle Crest SOY  CANDLES came to life. In addition to offering a fantastic candle we also developed a GREEN Product!

Frequent Asked Questions
Tips & Tricks

Is there such a thing as “triple or double scented” candles?
NO! Candle wax can hold only a certain amount of scent per pound. If you exceed that amount the fragrance oil would work its way out of the wax and rest on top of your candle. We use the maximum amount allowed by the oil manufacturer

Is it true candles have a memory?
Yes it is true. When you burn your candle for the first time allow your candle to burn until it has a complete melt pool from edge to edge (for our large jar candles, approximately 3hrs) In addition, keep the wick trimmed between each use to 1/4″ at all times. If you follow these two simple candle rules we guarantee a long lasting and cleaner burning candle.

Are all “Soy Candles” pure Soy?
NO! Some companies claim the candles they produce are Soy Candles but make sure you ask them if they use 100% soy wax. Some companies mix soy wax with paraffin wax or beeswax and state they are soy candles. This is not wrong to do but it is very misleading to those looking for a healthier candle product. By adding soy with additional waxes you will most likely not be able to enjoy all of the benefit of a true soy candle such as little to no soot, a longer burn time and a healthier candle – which are very important to most people.Candle Crest soy candles are indeed 100% soy wax.

Do all candles have cotton wicks?
No! Some Candles contain lead. Candle Crest uses cotton wick because they are a safer and cleaner. Some companies use wicks that contain lead which can be harmful for your health.

Is trimming my candle wick that important?
YES! Keeping your wick trimmed is very important. The wick should be trimmed to 1/4″ roughly every 4 hours of burn time. To trim your candle wick, simply extinguish the flame, when the candle has reached room temperature, simply trim the wick to 1/4″ before relighting. *Trimming the wicks will keep the candle burning without any black soot and it will give your candle a longer burn time. If you burn candles often, you may want to consider purchasing a “wick trimmer” tool.
